Case studies and inspiration

Over the course of the year, we have learnt about a range of case studies which could apply to our site in Newham regarding the community land trust. A main inspiration would be the Coin Street Community Builders as previously mentioned who worked with the Greater London Authority as well as local councils in order to drop the land prices from £4million to £1million, resulting in huge subsidies for the residents. Not only did this provide housing for over 1000 people, but also a range of mixed use buildings, bars and restaurants.

As well as this, we took inspiration from Leicester Waterside, as previously mentioned, due to its unique design on a waterfront design with similar features to our site as well as the constant decline over the past 30 years due to the water becoming less prominent and essential . The site created 325 homes and a new thriving community with an active waterfront which would be an ideal development for us.

In respect to our vision we aim to create this development that will offer a range of opportunities as well as be a safe area for all generations of Newham in the past, present and future. This could directly link to the Isle of Dogs case study that was covered on the course. Due to its similarity in location, it is highly feasible that the success rate can be the same in Newham.
