Site Character

excel centre.jpg

The main uses of the area within our site is currently characterized by the Excel Centre and London City Airport, mainly due to their size and large amounts of foot fall annually. As a result of this, it has supplied business for nearby hotels such as the Ibis to the west of the Excel Centre. In addition to this, the south and the north of the site are dominated by residential area with a range of housing types for an ever-growing diverse community, which we aim to positively contribute to.

Apart from this, due to the layout of the site, there is little to no public vitality meaning the time spent in the area for recreation is low. By developing the green areas, we aim to change this.

As previously mentioned, the community of Newham is extremely diverse with large levels of community activity and involvement. These include the West Silvertown Community Foundation using the nearby Britannia Village Hall for the encouragement of enhancing their heritage. This will directlylink to the redevelopment of the Mills and Silo D.
